Envisioning India

Envisioning India

India, one of the world's largest economies and the world’s largest democracy, is a key focus of IIEP. India’s rapid growth, poverty reduction, growing inequalities, and impact on climate change as well as the increasing importance of U.S.-India economic and strategic relations make its future development and challenges an area of great interest at IIEP.

IIEP advances research and dialogue on India through two primary efforts: a major conference series on U.S.–India economic relations and a broader body of faculty research and programming. During the pandemic, IIEP also hosted a virtual Envisioning India series on YouTube.

The GW India conferences convenes leading scholars, policymakers, and private sector executives to examine key issues in economic development and bilateral relations. Keynote speakers have included V. Anantha Nageswaran, 18th Chief Economic Advisor to the Government of India; Indermit Gill, Chief Economist of the World Bank; Vivek Lall, Chief Executive of General Atomics Global Corporation; Arun Kumar, former Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Global Markets and Director General of the U.S. and Foreign Commercial Service; and Arvind Subramanian, 16th Chief Economic Advisor to the Government of India.
