5th GW India Conference on India's Economic Development and U.S.-India Relations
IIEP has hosted four major India conferences, in 2015, 2016, 2019, and 2024 with an array of well-known speakers from India and the U.S. The fifth India conference will take place on April 24th, 2025. The fourth GW India conference took place in 2024, and the third GW India conference took place in 2019. During the pandemic, IIEP hosted many of the best and brightest thinkers about India as part of a virtual "Envisioning India" series, all of which can be found on our YouTube channel.
The GW India conferences have brought together top academic researchers, senior leaders of the corporate world, officials from the IMF, World Bank, OECD, and the UN, and current and former high-level policymakers in the U.S. and Indian governments. These conferences have been organized in partnership with the U.S.-India Business Council (USIBC), India's National Institute of Public Finance and Policy (NIPFP), the Sigur Center for Asian Studies, and the GW-Center for International Business Education and Research (GW-CIBER). The conferences addressed questions of poverty reduction, job creation, ramped-up growth, market reform, competitiveness, regional and global partnerships, sustainable growth, infrastructure, and urbanization. Keynote speakers included V. Anantha Nageswaran, 18th Chief Economic Advisor to the Government of India; Indermit Gill, Chief Economist of the World Bank; Vivek Lall, Chief Executive of General Atomics Global Corporation; Arun Kumar, former Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Global Markets and Director General of the U.S. and Foreign Commercial Service; and Arvind Subramanian, 16th Chief Economic Advisor to the Government of India.
