Principles Programs
For Elliott School Students Requiring a Full Introductory Course
Incoming Master's students who are required by the Elliott School Admissions Office to complete an introductory economics prerequisite prior to matriculation may fulfill this requirement through one of the programs listed below. Students may complete either:
- The combined Microeconomics and Macroeconomics program
- A standalone Microeconomics course
- A standalone Macroeconomics course
Successful completion of the required coursework satisfies the Elliott School’s prerequisite requirement. These programs do not carry academic credit for external institutions.
Course format: All courses include pre-recorded lectures, weekly graded homework assignments, and quizzes. An instructor holds weekly online office hours to answer questions and provide academic support and is responsible for grading assignments and assessments. A detailed list of topics is available for Microeconomics and Macroeconomics. The recommended textbook is Greg Mankiw’s Principles of Economics (older editions will suffice).
Students who have already taken economics in the past should take the assessment exam available here and then consider participating in the self-guided and self-paced online review programs available here.
Microeconomics and Macroeconomics Combined Sessions ($1,300)

To meet the prerequisite requirement, participants must earn at least 70% of the total possible points in each session. Participants who do not achieve 70% in one or both sessions will be required to take one (Micro or Macro) or two (Micro and Macro) final written exams on August 11, 2026.
