Indira Iyer

 Indira Iyer is a Research Professor at the Institute for International Economic Policy (IIEP), George Washington University, and a Professor at the National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER), New Delhi.

Currently, Indira is leading the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation’s work on improving efficiency and outcomes in public financial management at IIEP. At NCAER, she leads the work on macro-fiscal and economic development issues.

Indira has cross-organizational experience in government, international organizations and research institutions. Indira was the Chief Director of Research at the Tax Policy Research Unit (TPRU) in the Ministry of Finance, Government of India and the Economic Advisor to several national level committees including the Committee on Foreign Taxes deliberating path-breaking international tax issues at OECD in Paris, the Committee on Direct Tax Reforms in India and the Committee on e-Commerce. Previously, she has also taught graduate courses in Development Economics at IIEP. Indira has also worked extensively at the World Bank and is a former senior official of the Indian Revenue Service.
