Thomas Gratowski, ESIA MA ’14, is Director at the Boston Consulting Group’s Center for Geopolitics. Based in London, he works with a global network of partners and experts to develop insights and thought leadership at the intersection of geopolitics and business, while helping shape the Center’s overall strategy. He also supports senior client engagements and regularly speaks at public conferences and roundtables. His role includes strengthening firmwide awareness of geopolitical dynamics and their implications for business.
Thomas brings over a decade of experience advising business and public sector leaders on geopolitical strategy. Prior to joining BCG, he led Global Counsel’s global macro and geopolitics team, advising multinational companies and global investors on geopolitical and macroeconomic developments, with a particular focus on Europe and the Middle East. During this time, he established the firm’s Middle East and North Africa practice and founded its regional office in Doha, Qatar. He has also served as a Senior Research Fellow in geoeconomics at the Global Policy Institute in London.
Earlier in his career, Thomas worked in the World Bank’s Middle East and North Africa department in Washington, DC, contributing to country strategies for several Arab countries. Notably, he was a member of the Egypt strategy team tasked with refreshing the Bank’s approach following the political changes of 2013. He previously worked in the Bundestag office of then German Defence Minister Thomas de Maizière.
Thomas holds an M.A. in International Affairs from the Elliott School of International Affairs and a B.A. in Political Science from Freie Universität Berlin. He also studied at the American University of Beirut and was a full scholarship holder of the German Protestant Academic Foundation throughout his academic studies. He is married and has two children.
