Michael Rendina is focused on infrastructure investments and labor and government strategies and initiatives. Prior to joining GCM Grosvenor, Mr. Rendina spent more than 18 years managing some of the most heated political and issue advocacy campaigns across the country. He successfully managed nationally targeted U.S. Congressional and Senate campaigns and led critical legislative efforts at both the Municipal and State levels.
His legislative work has taken him from Capitol Hill to serving as Caucus Director of the Maryland Senate Democrats where he helped pass legislation that established a statewide progressive income tax. Mr. Rendina also led grassroots field efforts in Connecticut, Maryland and Florida to boost voter participation in key races, including Presidential elections.
Most recently, Mr. Rendina served as Senior Advisor to the Mayor of Chicago and Director of the Office of Legislative affairs. In that role, Mr. Rendina successfully led negotiations and collaborated with labor organizations on a wide-range of policy and legislative initiatives, including those that established statutorily-mandated actuarial funding and dedicated revenue streams for public employee pensions, implemented a mandatory paid sick leave policy for all public and private employees, established labor peace for concessions and airline employees at both O’Hare and Midway Airports, and secured $1 billion in funding to revitalize Chicago’s transit lines.
Mr. Rendina received his bachelor’s degree in International Economics and Politics and his Master of Arts in Political Management from George Washington University in Washington D.C. Mr. Rendina has served in advisory roles for various nonprofit organizations including the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights and as an advisory board member of the Illinois Education Foundation board.
