Please join us for a lunchtime book presentation featuring IIEP Faculty Affiliate Steve Suranovic and Julia Wlodarczyk, Professor at the University of Economics in Katowice, where they will discuss their contributions to the book Climate Change, Behaviour and Economics. A light lunch will be served at 11:45 a.m., and the presentation will commence at 12:00 p.m.
Dr. Suranovic will discuss his chapter, entitled "Fossil Fuel Usage as an Addiction: Lessons from the Campaign Against Cigarettes," and Dr. Wlodarczyk, a co-editor of the volume, will provide a broader perspective on the book.

About the Book
Why do people who recognize the risks of climate change often struggle to change their behavior? Climate Change, Behaviour and Economics explores this question through the lens of behavioral economics, examining how cognitive biases, social norms, information, and the tendency to maintain the status quo shape climate-related decisions. About the Speakers
Steve Suranovic received his B.S. in mathematics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and his M.S. and Ph.D. in economics from Cornell University. He has been a faculty member at George Washington University since 1988 and has served several terms as Director of the International Economic Policy M.A. program (formerly known as the International Trade and Investment Policy M.A. program) at the Elliott School of International Affairs.
Professor Suranovic teaches principles of microeconomics, international trade, and international finance theory and policy. In Fall 2002, he taught at Sichuan University in Chengdu, China, as a visiting Fulbright lecturer. Since 2009, he has taught summer study abroad classes for GW students at Fudan University in Shanghai. He has also spoken to business, government, and academic audiences in Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, China, and Mongolia as part of the U.S. State Department's speaker programs.
Professor Suranovic's research interests include international trade policy analysis, fairness in international trade, and the behavioral economics of cigarette addiction and dieting. His most recent research evaluates unfair trade policies with China and examines the world's addiction to fossil fuels and the implications for global climate change.
Julia Wlodarczyk is an Associate Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Economics in Katowice, Poland. Her research interests pertain to agents' heterogeneity and diversity, including economic inequality, flows of money and information, and phenomena related to the digital revolution. She is an academic tutor and the head of the organizing committee of the annual International Women's Day Conference in Economics, Finance, and Management. Dr. Wlodarczyk is a co-editor of Climate Change, Behaviour and Economics.
