Online Economics Review Programs

Online Economics Review Programs

The Institute for International Economic Policy (IIEP) will offer a series of online micro- and macroeconomics review programs this summer for Elliott School and other GW students. Most Elliott School Masters degrees require economics courses; these review programs will help students prepare for this coursework. These programs are not designed for someone without an economics background.

Students directed by the Elliott School Admissions Office to take a “refresher” (i.e. review) of introductory courses in economics should participate in one of the programs below.

All students must review micro- and macroeconomic theory before taking graduate economics courses at the Elliott School. The programs below can provide invaluable review of that material since students are expected to have current knowledge of the material covered in these review sessions in their graduate courses.

  • FREE ONLINE ECONOMICS DIAGNOSTICS TEST: IIEP will offer a free economics diagnostics test from May 1, 2018 through June 3, 2018. Incoming students with some background in economics are **strongly** recommended to take this diagnostic to gauge their current knowledge of micro- and macroeconomics and how to prepare over the summer. Note that the results from the diagnostic may differ from the Elliott School Admissions Office’s recommendation that is based solely on examination of a transcript. The diagnostic is designed to provide an accurate analysis of student preparation for coursework in economics at the Elliott School. Student results on the diagnostic will allow IIEP faculty to provide students with an individualized recommendation for how to best prepare for coursework at GWU. More details on this diagnostic are available here.
  • ECONOMICS PRINCIPLES ONLINE REVIEW PROGRAM: Students who have been told to take an economics “refresher” course in micro- and/or macroeconomics principles to meet the prerequisites for their program may enroll in this program to satisfy this requirement. These are self-paced and self-directed programs and accessible any time . The microeconomics review will be available after June 1st, 2018; the macroeconomics review will go online on July 1st, 2018. The cost for each program is $400. More details on this program, including description and registration are available here.
  • INTERMEDIATE ECONOMICS ONLINE REVIEW PROGRAM: Students with more coursework in economics and/or who have scored highly on the free diagnostic (see above) may also take an intermediate level refresher program, which will be helpful for more advanced economic courses. These are self-paced and self-directed programs and accessible any time after July 1st. These programs are especially important for incoming ITIP students or those concentrating in International Economic Policy or Development Economics. More details on this program, including description and registration are available here.

Students who have been alerted by the Elliott School Admissions Office that they must take a full introductory course in either micro- or macroeconomics or both should go here.
